Worship Revolution in Detroit
Last night I had the privilege of not only attending a concert but also opening it up in prayer. Shana Wilson was recording her latest CD. She had done two of our worship explosions at church. I had connected her with Julie Meyer and both of them had done the worship event together. Shana is a Detroit native, Julie a Kansas City IHOP leader and recording artist/author. One black, the other white. Yet they connected over something, someone who bridges every barrier, Jesus.
I had seen something in Shana, not just another up and coming recording artist but one who had the capacity to reach deep into the well of God’s presence and release a sound that would touch people, cities, territories. Shana has a quality where I can close my eyes, get lost in the sound, a sound that transports me into God’s presence.
Technical excellence is necessary; talent and skill are amazing assets. But there is something greater, a heart that is relentless toward God. Call it radical, passionate, sold out, whatever you want. All I know is when I heard her last night I cried, felt washed, shouted, clapped, in fact did it all. It wasn’t because I was excited, though I love Shana, pray for her and watch over her development from a distance. It was because I finally heard the sound.
What moved me was the anointing coming out of her. I have heard many artists, attended concerts, watch people “wet their pants” in excitement. But this was something far beyond, she transported me into God’s presence.
Years ago I prophesied in Detroit that there was coming a worship revolution, a movement in that city. In fact it was 1989 when I prophesied it. I saw masses of people moving out of churches, houses and buildings into the streets worshipping God. I knew there a worship revolution coming that would transform Detroit. A spiritual revolution would burst forth in the youth of the city through worship.
When I gave that word, I was speaking at a conference hosted by Velma Rosemond, (now Clapton). The power of God was so strong it was the only time I have prophesied that I almost went down under the power myself. In fact Sylvia Evans was there and said if I never did another significant thing the rest of my life, that specific prophecy could have been what I was born to give.
I heard a sound last night. A sound I have been looking for since then. The concert was packed out with mostly young people, probably 2000. Because I was opening in prayer, I sat on the front row with Shana’s family, right next to Julie Meyer, my good friend. Julie and I were both excited, reveling in what we heard. We heard the sound! Jesus was in the house moving through multiplied young people packing the place out. It was the new sound in Motown, flowing out of an amazing young Black artist, it was God’s sound.
Shana you did it! Now take the songs, the sound and the Jesus’ anointing all the way to heaven’s bank and release the worship revolution in Detroit.

Hi Pastor Barb – How can we hear that powerful sound with Shana? When will this night’s audio be released to purchase? Kathy and I believe you are right-on about a new sound coming out of Detroit. Kim Clement has prophesied that also years ago and refers to it often. It is very good to hear several trusted prophets speak that over Detroit. Motown is back!!! Be blessed, – Bill
This is simply awesome…I have to respond. Few months ago, as an avid WMUZ listener of Christian music, I heard the song “listen to the sound” by Building 429, and knew instantly that that was the cry of the Holy Spirit at that given season…I had been trying hard to listen to His sound, God’s sound since then. Through the weeks, the worship in me had been awakened and I have been feeling a deep longing in my guts, to worship God in a very intimate yet majestic and sovereign way…a call to love my Lord deeply as my husband and revere my Lord loudly (? ..I’m in loss of words) as a mighty King. Yesterday, Aug 4th, during our prayer time at home the Lord visited us in a profound and powerful way and released a word for our 3 children (it was our weekly fasting prayer that we hold at home to pray for our kids). I cannot explain how I felt…as if our little home would burst with the very presence of God. It was as if we took a drink out of something supernatural that had been poured out into the atmosphere. Today, Aug 5th, I read this blog and am amazed with the number of times the word ‘sound’ is mentioned, and every time I read it, my spirit quickened. Something powerful has been dispersed in the atmosphere from what Pastor Barbara witnessed in the concert in Detroit. Though we were not physically present or aware of this concert of Shana Wilson (whom we don’t even know)…we are truly tasting the aftermath of this outpouring days after, here in Troy, Mi….
Where can I get Shana’s CD, I have been hungry for so long for Worship songs that usher us into the very presence of our God. I felt your excitement and the annointing of this young lady as I read you email. Praise God for what He is doing in this young lady’s life. many many blessings to you. Linda
Pastor Barbara: I wanted to let you know that my husband and I had a vision of a white tent in our front yard (10 acres-PTL) with worship music and many, many people raising their voices and their hands to the Lord of Hosts. This vision came about in 1999 ~ on the 4th of July of this year, the Lord gave us a massive “green light” to have this praise & worship concert THIS YEAR! He said “NOW” ~ so, our gathering is on Friday, August 19th! Myself and ladies prayer group (WORK Squadron w/ Rosemarie Wright & Cindy Carswell) have been praying for the unity of Detroit with the suburbs! This is definitive confirmation that the worship gathering is right on tine and will work in conjunction with the Detroit gathering! The sound will resonate from North to South & East to West! The Lord showed me it would spread like a spark turns into a wildfire! PTL for His faithfulness in uniting the body of Christ! Blessings…..Susan
